Reconciliation Acheived

DAGGER and the Letter E have successfully reached an agreement!

Feel free to revert to previous usage of all letters of the alphabet.

TRASH FIFTH ALPHA-THING!

At DAGGR last Thursday, friction with fifth alpha-thing hit a climax with a war against this imposing symbol. Fighting against fifth alpha-thing, Daggrlings partook of gobbling worms, playing cards to discard all, Banging, producing and trading goods, racing and crashing small plastic cars, playing Dominion, and arranging wood things into words on a board, and drawing on a chalkboard.

I also saw a round or two of Rock, Bomb, Scissors.

WAR ON FIFTH ALPHA THING

DAGGR will discard fifth alpha-thing.
No activity this Thursday will contain this symbol in its titular word(s).

Join us in fighting this worst thing in our world - fifth alpha thing!
Don't trust this symbol! Start fighting!

No survivors shall carry on in our utilization of words!

Gamers' Paradise Recap

Thanks to everyone who came to Gamers' Paradise on Saturday! We raised $122 for Child's Play and had a great time. In addition to tournaments, we had people playing Rock Band, Smash, Left 4 Dead, Mario Kart, DDR, Bang, Dominion, and Citadels.

Congratulations to the winners of the tournaments!
Mario Kart Wii: Chris
Super Smash Brothers Brawl: Andrew
Rock Band: Alex, Chris, Lisa, and Steven

All of our winners received free XBox 360 games from our Microsoft campus rep, Willie. Willie also had some other freebies available for everyone, and we had bags of chips, soda, and pizza!

We also had at least one person who came by just to hang out even though she wasn't interested in playing any of the games. And thanks to the freshmen who helped some upperclassmen get brunch at the Marketplace beforehand!

Gamers' Paradise Tomorrow!

We're gearing up for Gamer's Paradise, which is going to be a huge event in GA Downunder TOMORROW, 2-10PM. It truly will be a "Gamers' Paradise," in that while there will be lots of video games and video game tournaments, we will also have the usual selection of board games, card games, and other games that Daggerites know and love. So even if you're not competing in a tournament, don't know the difference between an analog stick and a twig, or simply can't stand video games, come on out anyway for an absolutely awesome time.

Tournaments details:
2:30 pm Mario Kart $4
3:30 pm Smash Brothers $4
5:00 pm Rockband $4 for individual or $10 for 4 person band
Play in all tournaments for $10

All proceeds go to Child's Play to give entertainment to children's hospitals.

Hope to see you there for all the fun games and some free food!

Water Features Recap

This week, your DAGGER officers sorted through the game options and brought you a collection of games with water features. We had people wandering through a creepy house when suddenly they found a lake levitating on the second floor. Others navigated across a river by flicking stepping stones into place. Some built castles and roads and tried to claim these for themselves. And some...had wells. (I'll admit to not knowing enough about Dominion to be able to say more about it than that!) Even German professors like playing games!
But no one ate small fish with larger fish.

The theme of water even extended to our entertainment for the night, with songs like Under the Sea. Music is just one of the uses of the technological system in Soc Sci 105. We also used it to put the blog on display, clarify rules, and...do homework?

Also, let this be your notification that DAGGER and the letter E are currently at odds. Soon, we may have to turn our backs against this letter and leave it out of our thoughts and speech.

Water, Water, Everywhere...

...Especially at DAGGER this week! This Thursday at 8 PM, we will be playing games with water features. From the levitating lake that falls to the basement in Betrayal to the aquaduct in San Juan, and everything between and beyond, don't miss the watery fun in Soc Sci 105!

Let's do the Murdering Dance!

*taptap*

Last week at DAGGER, we played Murder in the Dark. Alternating between wandering around a building and discussing what happened while everyone was wandering around the building, Murder in the Dark plays pretty similarly to Mafia, but with more paranoia. Never trust your friends. (You just might learn that your boyfriend and roommate are both murderers.)

Gamer's Paradise

DAGGER and Psi Upsilon will be co-hosting Gamer's Paradise on Saturday, November 7 at 2 pm in GA Downunder on East Campus. We will have 3 tournaments during the event: Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, and a Rockband battle of the bands. Below are the costs for entering the tournaments. Murder in the Dark: Halloween Edition

As you may have noticed, this Saturday is Halloween! In honor of the holiday, we will be playing Murder in the Dark this week at DAGGER! Never played Murder in the Dark before? That's okay! We'll explain the rules on Thursday night. If you're ever played Mafia, it's kind of like live-action Mafia. If you've never played Mafia, no worries!

And just think: if you come play this week, you'll never again be able to say that you've never played Murder in the Dark!

We'll be in Soc Psych 126 at 8PM. Note the location change.

W-O-R-D-S

Do you like trying to decide which noun your friends will pick as best for an adjective? Do you like picking ridiculous nouns? Do you like screaming out words as your friends try to give you clues? How about hitting a buzzer as the other team tries to do this? Are you a budding artist, master speller, burgeoning actor, or trivia queen?

Did you answer to yes to any of these questions, but miss out on DAGGER last week? If you answered yes to this question, I feel bad for you. If you answered no, then hopefully you had a great time at DAGGER. Or you don't like words, but you're reading the blog, and therefore you confuse me.

Also, for some reason, the word of the night was pancreas.

Word Games!

This week's DAGGER theme is word games! Games will include Apples to Apples, Balderdash, Catch Phrase, Cranium, Guesstures, Outburst, Pictionary, Scattegories, Scrabble, Taboo, and anything you might bring! Thursday at 8pm in SocSci 105.

This will be a family-friendly night - if your parents get in Thursday night, feel free to bring them by. We can bring some other games and cards for parents and siblings.

Heads up: Next week is Murder in the Dark. Just thought you should know.

"I WILL KICK YOU!"

Congratulations to the winners of the XBox-360 game raffle last night! Danny won Viva Piñata and I won Halo Wars.* Thanks to Microsoft rep Willie for the games! It was a great night overall, with the great theme for the night:

Violence is great! Chasing your friends around with flaming bats, shooting them in a spaghetti western show-down, fighting your way through the necropalypse, battling monsters with your Kung Fu skills...

And then there's destruction! Take over the world and put the citizens of all countries at your mercy! Or stop the destruction by saving those same citizens from death at the hands of deadly diseases!

Of course, for some, DAGGER is also a place to do homework while still being social. And don't forget that you can always bring food with you if you haven't had dinner yet! (Just please don't get food and/or drink on the games or Lisa will hurt you!) We also like to go out as a group after DAGGER to get food, generally at McDonald's/The Dillo.

*That's right. I just congratulated myself. Also, hi, I'm Megan *waves*

Violence and Destruction: October 15th

This week's meeting will be games with potential for Violence and Destruction! There will be car explosions in Formula Motor Racing, shotgunning zombies in Zombie Fluxx, world domination in Risk, beheading of French nobility in Guillotine, and whatever real-life...I mean, whatever other games we decide have enough violence. We're back in Soc Sci 105 this week, and every week for the rest of the semester! Hope to see you tonight!

We will also have a raffle for X-Box games!

General Games Recap

Last week, after commandeering two rooms, we had so many games going I know I didn't manage to keep track of all of them. Here's what I do know though: if you weren't there, you missed out on turning against your friends in a creepy house, shooting them for money, throwing green shells at them, banging them, saving the world from disease, and spelling out words. There was also Dominion and Warhammer.

October 8th: General Games Night

Tonight! 8PM! Soc Sci 107! Join us to recover from the first two days back from fall break with a general games night.

Anything but video games tonight. Email Tina (christina.delcarpio@duke.edu) if you have any specific requests, and feel free to bring your own games! Hope to see you there!

The Last Two Weeks

Midterms. They happen. Here's a recap of the past two weeks at DAGGER!

September 24th - One-Shot RPGs: 9 people played Chris's game of Feng Shui. Other people watched and enjoyed the fun. A Russian accent, action movie plot, and propositioning someone at a bar. All in the first 10 minutes!

October 1st - Card Games: We played Killer Bunnies, Bang!, Dominion, Bridge, Guillotine, Formula Motor Racing, and Masquerade.
And I forgot my camera and was sad and picture-less.

This Week: One-Shot RPGs!

This week's Dagger event will be one-shot RPGs. We'll be in Soc Sci 105 at 8PM, Thursday Sept. 24th.

Board Games Night

Last week at Dagger, we* played some great board games!

Pandemic, Scrabble, Settlers of Catan, Formula Motor Racing, Ticket to Ride, Betrayal, and a game of Risk God Storm that lasted the entire night (until they decided to just end the game and battle it out in the underworld).

*By we, I mean the rest of the people there. I was also there, but I was finishing a paper. However, I did get it done! And I advertised the blog!

Beatles Rock Band Last Week, Board Games This Week!

Beatles Rock Band was a success last week. The main event was of course the new Beatles Rock Band game, with up to 6 people playing at once. Some of those harmonies were working out really well. The rest, well...it was a lot of fun!

We also had Dominion, Pickomino, Tichu, and several versions of Fluxx.

This Thursday (tomorrow!) we will be playing board games at 8PM in Soc Sci 105. Join us for Risk and Scrabble, as well as Settlers of Catan, Betrayal, Carcassonne, and what ever else we (or you!) bring.

Beatles Rock Band: Sept 10, 8PM

If you don't already know, Beatles Rock Band comes out tomorrow. In celebration, this week's Dagger event is Beatles Rock Band!

We'll also have other games to play while waiting for an instrument. We will be meeting in Soc Sci 105 again at 8 pm on Thursday. Hope to see you there to help us break in the new game.

DAGGER

DAGGER (Duke Association for Greater Gaming Education and Recreation) is the official gaming club of Duke University. We play video games, card games, board games, and more. Occasionally we enjoy a nice game of Murder in the Dark or Nerf War. We will post upcoming and past events on this blog. You can also join our Facebook group.
